This memorial is inside Waterbeck Parish Church at OS Map Ref: NY 248 777.
Not listed on UKNIWM.
It looks to my uneducated eye as if someone has had a go at cleaning the gilt with Brasso
The memorial is a Roll of honour, 32 served and returned and 2 died.
At least 9 of the 32 were female going from the names alone. A very high number, I wonder if there was some local unit (hospital?) that they all volunteered for?

Son of Robert and Isabella Jardine; husband of Janet Buchannan Jardine, of Old Rattray, Perthshire.
Also named on the nearby Middlebie WW2 War Memorial.

James John Jardine – age 36 – Lance Corporal (2699338) 4th Battalion, Scots Guards.
“John” was employed at Mossband, Gretna when he joined up in 1940.
The 4th Scots Guards was formed in 1941 but was disbanded before it could go overseas. However an independent company joined the 3rd Battalion of the Irish Guards and took part in the battle to take Cagny near Caen in Normandy. John was buried there but was re-interred in Banneville in August 1945.
Born 1907 in Middlebie. Son of Robert and Isabella (Thompson) Jardine of The Crook, Middlebie. Husband of Janet Buchannan (Moir) Jardine of Waterbeck House and of Old Rattray, Perthshire who he married in 1943 in Middlebie.
Killed in Action on 20 July 1944 and buried in Banneville-la-Campagne War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
Also named on the Middlebie Parish War Memorial.

Son of Charles Low Stewart and Helen Stewart; husband of Barbara Stewart, of Waterbeck, Dumfriesshire.
Charles Peter Macdonald Stewart – age 26 – Sergeant (2753795) 6th Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
Prior to joining up Charles was a gardener with his father. He served with the 6th Black Watch in France until they were lifted off the beaches at Dunkirk, and in Tunisia in 1943. They then took part in the hard-fought advance in Italy against the several well prepared German defensive lines and most particularly at Monte Cassino. Born 1918 in St. Andrew, Dundee. Son of Charles Low Stewart and Helen or Nellie (MacDiarmid) Stewart of Mill Cottage, Aberfeldy. Husband of Barbara or Rita (Broatch) Stewart of Whitlees, Waterbeck who he married in 1940 in Middlebie, Dumfriesshire.
Killed in Action on 14 May 1944 and buried in Cassino War Cemetery, Italy.
