St Paul's Church & St Barnabas' Mission Great War Memorial
St Paul's & St George's Episcopal Church
York Place, Edinburgh
This church has only just re-opened after a 30 month refurbishment. The traditional church layout has been replaced by a modern flexible layout. There are a few memorials dotted around which have been protected and left in-situ. I will post the soldier's memorials in the Individual Section of this forum.
Before the refurbishment the church's war memorial was in a side chapel beside the altar which was used to store musical instruments and amplifiers etc. There were also other memorials and rolls of honour stored here which were taken out and displayed in early November each year.
Now this side altar has been converted into a store-room for musical instruments and amplifiers etc. The war memorial is still in place in the store-room wall but will not be on public display.
I took a photograph of the memorial from the storeroom door. I didn't feel I could just wander in to this store and start moving equipment about to get images of it. Once the congregation has got back to normal after it's opening and move back I will contact the relevant church officer to see about getting better photographs and enquire about their other war memorials including one for St George's.
I will also return for a photograph of the church itself. It wasn't looking at its best yesterday because of the rain and the building work still in progress outside the church.
