Thomas Allan Mackenzie Mmemorial
St Paul's & St George's Church
York Place (Queen Street)
Edinburgh
St Paul's & St George's Church has recently opened after a 30 month refurbishment.
Certain memorial plaques were retained on the walls throughout the building work.
This memorial has been retained but unfortunately is now in a small recess behind the wall of the new lifts.
This is as good an angle you will get. There is another complimentary memorial at the other side of the West (main) doorway in the same situation.
This Indian Army Officer passed away before the Indian Mutiny in 1857 but from the inscription it looks like he had seen his fair share of action before he died.

I like the last line on this memorial
Sacred to the Memory of
Thomas Allan Mackenzie
Captain in the 3rd Regiment Bombay Light Cavalry
Who departed this life at Bombay
On the 3rd of October 1856, in the 37th year of his age
He was a distinguished and gallant soldier
A cheerful and kind hearted comrade
An attached and generous friend
This tablet to the memory of one so beloved and
lamented by all who knew him is erected by his
Brother officers with whom he passed nearly 19 years
of his life including active field service
In Scinde and Afghanistan
Where he most gallantly
Fought and Bled.
