VICTORIA U.F. CHURCH
Began in 1852 when, with a view to forming a congregation to serve the needs of the Gorbals District, the Glasgow Free Church Building Society bought Gorbals Parish Church (in Carlton Place) then standing empty, it having been taken over by the superiors because of arrears of feu-duty (see Note 4 to Gorbals). The following year the congregation was formed, being known as East Gorbals Free Church. The building was reacquired by the Established Church in 1864 and the congregation then worshipped in John Knox church till their new building at Eglinton Toll was opened in October 1864 when they adopted the new name of Victoria Free Church. After 1900 they became Victoria United Free Church.
Church dedicated in October 1864. The church was completely destroyed by fire on 30th March 1929. The church terminated on 1st January 1930 on uniting with Crosshill (II) as Crosshill Victoria, and is now part of QUEEN’S PARK CHURCH.
The memorial and stained glass windows are now housed in Queen’s Park Church, 170 Queen’s Drive, Glasgow G42 8QZ.
