Not listed on UKNIWM
Located in Caldons Wood, Glentrool at OS Map Ref NX 397 788.
This is the grave of 6 Covenanters who were killed whilst holding a Church service at a nearby Farmhouse on 23rd January 1685. Their names were: James and Robert Duns, Thomas and John Stevensons, James McClive and Andreu (sic) McCall.
There is an original stone which was carved by ‘Old Mortality’ within a walled enclosure. There is also a further commemoration stone which was added on 15th July 1928. Unfortunately the original 'original' stone was vandalised in 1983. The broken pieces were put back together and this 'original stone' is now in Newton Stewart museum. There is a replacement ‘original’ stone on the site.
Unfortunately I do not currently have an overall photo of the enclosure.
