This was announced on my works intranet today:

Bank of Scotland has donated £5,000 towards restoring an historic monument at The Mound, in memory of the famous Black Watch regiment. (12/12/07)
The Black Watch Association, in partnership with Edinburgh World Heritage, has launched a campaign to raise £15,000 to restore and repair the monument. It depicts a Highland soldier with rifle and bayonet and displays the names of soldiers who fell during the Boer War.
Says Major David McMicking: "The South African War Memorial has been a wonderful landmark over the last century. It’s a fine tribute to our forebears who died serving their country. I thank Bank of Scotland very much for their generosity."
Comments Corporate managing director Eddie Morrison: "Bank of Scotland donated the land on which the monument stands, so it is only fitting that we play our part in helping to kick start this fundraising campaign."
