ROBERTSON, JOHN
John Robertson – age 18 – Private (12320) 14th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
John enlisted in July 1915. He claimed to be a baker and 19 years old but was just 16 and he was discharged in July 1916 when found to be under age and not fit for active service. John was awarded a Silver War Badge (360454) and, after a long illness, he died two years later at the family home of Park Lodge, Tranent where his father was the Burgh Surveyor. The family had moved from Kinghorn in Fife in 1915.
Born 1899 in Leslie, Fife. Son of Richard and Rachel (Dewar) Robertson of 36 Lammermoor Terrace, Tranent.
Died on 9 July 1918 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)


ROGAN, JAMES
James Rogan – age 20 – Private (2537) 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots.
James was a coal miner when he enlisted in the Royal Scots Reserve in November 1912. He was posted to the 2nd Royal Scots in France in January 1915. James was evacuated home in April 1916 and rejoined his battalion in September only to be killed two months later.
Born 1896 in Tranent. Son of the late Mary (Ward) Rogan (died 1913) and of John Rogan of 63 Loch Road, Tranent.
Killed in Action on 13 November 1916 and buried in Serre Road Cemetery No.1, France.

ROGAN, JOHN

John Rogan – age 26 – Private (10109) 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
John was employed as a pony handler at Fleets Pit, Elphinstone Colliery when he enlisted in 1907. In 1911 he was serving with the 1st KOSB in India and in August 1914 they were at Lucknow. They sailed to Egypt in November and then to England at the end of the year. They sailed again in March 1915 and landed at Cape Helles on Gallipoli on 25 April 1915.
Born 1890 in Tranent as John Rogan Ward. Son of the late Mary (Ward) Rogan (died 1913) and of John Rogan of 63 Loch Road, Tranent.
John and Mary married in 1893 in Tranent.
Missing in Action on 4 June 1915 and named on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.

Alexander Scott – age 39 – Private (18282) 10th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.
Alexander was a coal miner. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in May 1915.
Born 1876 in Tranent. Son of William and Elizabeth (Hogg) Scott of Tranent. Husband of Jane Hay Scott of 12 Park Road, Tranent who he married in 1896 in Tranent.
Killed in Action on 4 September 1915 and buried in Cambrin Churchyard Extension, France.

Alexander Scott – age 17 – Private (24690) 15th Battalion (1st Edinburgh) Royal Scots.
Alexander was a coal miner living with his mother at 12 Park Road, Tranent when he enlisted in May 1915. He landed with his battalion at Le Havre in January 1916. He was wounded on the Somme in July and evacuated to the Kitchener's Hospital in Brighton where he died.
Born 1899 in Tranent as Alexander Hay Scott. Son of the late Alexander Scott (died 1915) and of Jane (Hay) Scott of 21 Morrison Avenue, Tranent.
Died of Wounds on 25 July 1916 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)


SCOTT, DAVID
David Scott – age 27 – Private (325036) 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
David was a coal miner living at 49 Loch Road, Tranent and working for the Edinburgh Coal Company when he enlisted as Private (649) in the Territorial 8th Royal Scots in March 1911. He was mobilised in August 1914 and landed with the 1/8th Royal Scots at Le Havre in November 1914. He was evacuated to England in August 1915 and returned to his battalion in March 1916.
Born 1889 in Tranent. Son of the late David Main Scott (died 1915) and of Mary Gray Scott of 15 Park Road, Tranent.
Missing in Action on 22 July 1916 and named on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France.
Also named on the Elphinstone Village War Memorial near Tranent.

John Scott – age 28 – Private (1086) 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
John was a coal miner. He joined his battalion in France in December 1914.
Born 1887 in Tranent as John Kerr Scott. Son of David and Mary (Gray) Scott of 15 Park Road, Tranent. Husband of Jane (Blaikie) Scott who he married in 1912 in Tranent.
Missing In Action on 16 May 1915 and named on the Le Touret Memorial, France.


SHANLEY, JAMES
James Shanley – age 19 – Private (2306) 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots.
By 1911 the family had moved to Park Road, Tranent and James was a coal miner when he enlisted in the Army Reserve in January 1912. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion in Belgium in September 1914. James died in the 14th Field Ambulance at Dranouter.
Born 1895 in Edinburgh. Son of Patrick and Mary (Buckley) Shanley of 2 Eastfield Street, Tranent.
Died of Wounds on 24 November 1914 and buried in Dranouter Churchyard, Belgium.


STEVENSON, CHAS.
Charles Stevenson – age 25 – Private (325149) 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
Charles enlisted as Private (916) in the Territorial 8th Royal Scots in May 1913. He was mobilised in August 1914 and landed with the 1/8th Royal Scots at Le Havre in November 1914. He was wounded on several occasions but was badly wounded in April 1918 and after treatment at the 26th General Hospital in Etaples he was evacuated home. He continued serving at the Royal Scots Depot at Glencorse until he was discharged from the Army and awarded a Silver War Badge (453348) in November 1919. Charles died from the effects of his wounds in the Edinburgh War Hospital at Bangour, West Lothian.
Born 1894 in Ballingry, Fife as Charles Stewart Stevenson. Son of the late William and Martha (Smith) of 60 New Row, Tranent. (both died 1910) Husband of Isabella (Glendinning) Stevenson of 17 Northgate, Peebles who he married in April 1917 in Peebles when he was living at Loch Road, Tranent.
Died of Wounds on 2 December 1919 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)

STEWART, JOHN
John Stewart – age 32 – Private (774) 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
John of the Square, Elphinstone was a coal miner and a member of the Territorial 8th Royal Scots. He was mobilised in August 1914 and landed with the 1/8th Battalion at Le Havre in November 1914.
Born 1882 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Son of the late Agnes (Porter) Stewart (died 1899) and of John Stewart. Husband of Agnes Duncan (Arnott) Stewart, from 1916 Mrs. Robert Fairgrieve, of 16 New Row, Elphinstone, Tranent who he married in 1908 in Tranent.
Died 0f Wounds on 8 March 1915 and buried in Rue-du-Bacquerot (13th London) Graveyard, Laventie, France.
Also named on the Elphinstone Village War Memorial.


SUTHERLAND, JOHN
John Sutherland – age 27 – Lance Corporal (2030) 1/4th Battalion, Royal Scots.
John was educated at Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh and became a teacher at Laurieston School in Falkirk. He enlisted in the Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Scots in January 1906 and transferred to the Territorial 4th Royal Scots in March 1908. He transferred to the 6th Battalion in 1910 and rejoined the 4th in September 1914, landing with the 1/4th Royal Scots at Gallipoli in June 1915. John was killed a few weeks later at Krithia.
Born 1888 in Tranent. Son of John and Anne (Wise) Sutherland, of Meadowmill, Tranent.
Missing in Action on 29 June 1915 and named on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
Also named on the Boroughmuir High School memorial, the Edinburgh Provincial Training Centre memorial and on the Laurieston School memorial.

TEMPLETON, W.F.
William Fowler Templeton – age 29 – Captain 1/4th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.
William was educated at George Heriot's School in Edinburgh before becoming a Student of Arts at Edinburgh University in 1907. He graduated M.A. Hons. English in 1911 and became an English teacher at the Irvine Royal Academy, Ayrshire in 1912. He was commissioned in the Territorial 4th RSF in August 1914 and joined the 1/4th Battalion in Egypt in January 1916. He was promoted to Captain in February and served in Palestine until the battalion moved to France in April 1918. William was killed at Cambrai.
Born 1889 in Tranent. Son of David and Joan (Fowler) Templeton of 66 High Street, Tranent.
Killed in Action on 1 October 1918 and buried in Cantaing British Cemetery, France.
Also named on the George Heriot's School memorial and Roll of Honour, on the Edinburgh University Old College memorial and Roll of the Fallen, on the Edinburgh Provincial Training Centre memorial and on the Irvine War Memorial.


TENNANT, JOHN
John Tennant – age 19 – Lance Corporal (S/16309) 8th Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
Born 1898 in Tranent. Son of James and Jemima (Crow) Tennant of Church Street, Tranent.
Missing in Action on 12 October 1917 and named on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.


TENNANT, JOHN
John Tennant – age 27 – Private (303237) 1/8th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
John was a sub post master in Edinburgh when he enlisted in the Argylls as Private (4952) in December 1915. He was mobilised in April 1916 and posted to his battalion in France in January 1917.
Born 1889 in Tranent. Son of Robert and Marion (Grant) Tennant of 6 Hope Place, Tranent. Husband of Jeannie (Gray) Tennant of Cuthill Post Office, Prestonpans and of 18 Front Street, Prestonpans who he married in 1912 in Edinburgh.
Killed in Action on 20 April 1917 and buried in St. Nicolas British Cemetery, France.

THOMPSON, ALEX.
Possibly:
Alexander Thomson – age 33 – Private (M2/204032) Army Service Corps.
In 1911 Alexander was a groom and gardener, living with his family at Thorntonloch, Innerwick, East Lothian. He died in the Military Hospital at Netley in Hampshire.
Born 1884 at Biel, Stenton, East Lothian as Thompson. Son of James and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Thompson. Husband of Isabella Robertson (Dickson) Thomson of Knowes, Prestonkirk, East Lothian who he married in 1906 in Stenton as Thomson.
Died on Service on 3 May 1917 and buried in Stenton Cemetery. (CWG)
Also named on the Innerwick and Stenton Parish War Memorials.


TYRIE, JOHN B.
John Tyrie – age 23 – Private (25777) 15th Battalion (1st Edinburgh) Royal Scots.
John was a coal miner living with his parents at 44 Park Road, Tranent when he enlisted in July 1915. He landed with his battalion at Le Havre in January 1916 but he was killed six months later on the Somme.
Born 1893in Inveresk, Midlothian as John Birrell Tyrie. Son of Thomas and Agnes Bell (Birrell) Tyrie of Park Road, Tranent. Husband of Mary Robertson (Bruce) Tyrie of Smeaton Farm, Kirkcaldy, Fife and of 49 High Street, Prestonpans, East Lothian who he married in 1914 in Tranent.
Missing in Action on 1 July 1916 and named on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France.

VALENTINE, JAS.
James Valentine – age 21 – Private (34403) 16th Battalion (2nd Edinburgh) Royal Scots.
By 1911 the family had moved to Tranent.
Born 1896 in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Son of Alexander and Mary Elizabeth (Joss)Valentine of Myles Farm, Elphinstone, Tranent.
Killed in Action on 9 April 1917 and buried in Roclincourt Valley Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Elphinstone Village War Memorial.


WATT, ANDREW
Andrew Watt – age 36 – Sapper (79947) 173rd Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers.
Andrew enlisted as Private (11931) in Cowdenbeath, Fife and joined the 2nd Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in France in February 1915. At some point he was transferred to the Royal Engineers.
Born 1880 in Tranent. Son of Mary Logan Watt. Mary married Hugh McGinnie in 1893 in Edinburgh and she and Andrew's two younger sisters, Jane and Georgina Neil McGinnie were named as his legatees.
Missing in Action on 17 April 1916 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.


WATT HENRY L.
Thought to be :
Henry Currie Watt – age 26 – Sergeant (275361) 5th/6th Battalion, Royal Scots.
Henry was a forester when he enlisted as Private (1999) in the Territorial 6th Royal Scots in September. He was attached to the 1/8th Battalion when they landed at Le Havre in November 1914. He was evacuated to hospital in Oxford due to illness in January 1915 and re-posted to the 1/6th Royal Scots in Egypt in September 1915. The 1/5th and 1/6th Battalion moved to France in the Spring of 1916 and were merged in June 1916. Henry died in the 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital at Doullens.
Born 1891 in Tranent. Son of David and Isabella Sarah (Watson) Watt of Carlaverock Farm, Tranent and of St. Margarets, Cramond, Midlothian.
Died of Wounds on 3 April 1918 and buried in Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension No.1, France.
Also named on the Cramond Parish War Memorial.

WEIR, JOHN
John Shaw Weir – age 32 – Private (291693) 1st Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
John was living with his wife and family in Cockenzie, Tranent when he enlisted as Private (1568) in the H.L.I. He was posted to his battalion in France.
Born 1886 Crofthead, Fauldhouse, Linlithgowshire/West Lothian. Son of Robert and Agnes (Shaw) Weir of Cockenzie, Tranent. Husband of Mary Jane Hislop (Lee) Weir who he married in 1905 in Edinburgh.
Killed in Action on 21 September 1918 and buried in Villers Hill British Cemetery, Villers-Guislain, France.

WILKIE, HENRY
Harry Wilkie – age 33 – Private (43707) 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
Henry was a coal miner at Woodhall Colliery, Yester, Pencaitland when he enlisted as Private (826) in the Territorial 8th Royal Scots in May 1912. He was mobilised in August 1914 and landed with the 1/8th Royal Scots at Le Havre in November 1914. He was transferred as Private (43707) to the 16th Royal Scots in October 1916 and returned to the 1/8th Battalion in September 1917.
Born 1885 in Kirriemuir Forfar/Angus as Henry Burns Wilkie. Son of John and Margaret (Burns) Wilkie. Husband of Margaret (Milne) Wilkie of John Street, Tranent who he married in 1908 in Angus.
Missing in Action on 22 March 1918 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.


WOOD, THOMAS
Thomas Wood – age 35 – Private (10/3132) Hawke's Bay Company, 1st Battalion, Wellington Regiment, New Zealand Infantry.
Thomas was a carpenter and was living at Ellerslie House, Queen Street, Hastings, North Island when he enlisted. He sailed from Wellington in November 1915 for Suez in Egypt and landed in France in April 1916.
Born 1881 in Tranent. Son of Thomas and Janet (Scott) Wood of 10 New Row, Tranent. Husband of the late Elizabeth (Fiddes) Wood (died 1909 in Tranent) who he married in 1906 in Tranent.
Missing in Action on 16 September 1916 and named on the Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, France.

1939 – 1945

JOHN BALFOUR
John Renton Balfour – age 24 – Guardsman (2695835) 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards.
It is assumed that John was a Prisoner of War from the North African campaign when he died in Italy.
Born 1918 in Tranent. Son of the late John Balfour (died 1918) and of Margaret (Renton) Balfour of Fowler Street, Tranent.
Died on Service on 31 January 1943 and buried in Milan War Cemetery, Italy.


GEORGE BAXTER
George Baxter – age 26 – Gunner (5260091) 6 Battery, 3 Maritime Regiment, Royal Artillery.
George was serving on a Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship supporting the Allied landings in North Africa. He was originally buried in Algiers Cemetery and was re-interred in September 1944.
Born 1917 in Cowdenbeath, Fife. Son of John and Margaret Baxter of Tranent.
Died on Active Service on 6 February 1943 and buried in Dely Ibrahim War Cemetery, Algeria.


JAMES BLAIR
James Blair – age 21 – Sergeant (1568087) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
James was on a training flight on an Anson of 9 (Observer) Advanced Flying Unit based at RAF Penrhos, Caernarfon when it crashed on the approach to Mona Airfield, Anglesey in very bad weather.
Born 1923 in Tranent. Son of Michael and Mary (Keenan) Blair of Lindores Drive, Tranent.
Died on Service on 16 May 1945 and buried in Llanbeblig Public Cemetery, Caernarfon.


JAMES BROWN
James Brown – age 37 – Private (1738926) Pioneer Corps.
James died of bronco-pneumonia in the Bangour Hospital, Uphall, West Lothian.
Born c.1906 in East Lothian. Son of of the late James and and Agnes Coull (Rosie) Brown, of Tranent. Husband of Janet (Anderson) Brown of 16 Northfield East, Tranent.
Died on Service on 30 April 1943 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)

JOSEPH BRYANT
Joseph Mack Bryant – age 28 – Private (3053735) 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots.
The 2nd Royal Scots had been in Hong Kong since January 1938. Joseph was captured at the fall of Hong Kong to the Japanese in December 1941. At the end of September 1942 about 1800 prisoners and 700 Japanese troops were being transported to Japan when their ship, the “Lisbon Maru”, was torpedoed by the American submarine USS Grouper near Shanghai, China. All of the Japanese personnel were evacuated before the ship began to sink and many of the prisoners were shot as they tried to escape.
Born 1914 in Tranent. Son of the late John Bryant (died 1931) and of Elizabeth (Mack) Bryant of Ormiston Crescent, Tranent.
Died on Service between 1 and 2 October 1942 and named on the Sai Wan Memorial, Hong Kong, China.


ALEXANDER BURNS
Alexander Thomson Burns – age 25 – Craftsman (1578885) Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Alexander was employed by the Tranent Gas Company when he enlisted. He became a prisoner of war in the Middle East in the summer of 1942. He died in Stalag 18 in Wolfsberg, Austria and was re-interred in November 1945. Born 1919 in Tranent. Son of Robert and Margaret (Thomson) Burns of Tranent.
Died on Service on 16 June 1944 and buried in Klagenfurt War Cemetery, Austria


SAMUEL CLARK
Samuel Clarke – age 28 – Lance Corporal (3061034) 1st Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
1st Black Watch landed at Normandy on the evening of D-Day 6 June 1944. Samuel was killed near Bas de Fontenay and was re-interred in June 1945.
Born 1915 in Tranent. Son of David and Jane (Martin) Clarke of 15 John Street, Tranent. Husband of Alice (Higgins) Clarke of 3 Buxley Road, Elphinstone, East Lothian who he married in 1940 in Tranent.
Killed in Action on 19 July 1944and buried in St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, France
Also named on the Elphinstone Village War Memorial.

ANDREW COMBE
Andrew Combe – age 36 – Lance Corporal (3051830) 1st Battalion, Royal Scots.
Andrew was a farm servant when he married in July 1939. At the start of war the 1st Battalion, stationed in Aldershot, embarked for France as part of The British Expeditionary Force (BEF). In May 1940 they fought throughout the retreat which, for most of the BEF, was to end with evacuation from Dunkirk. However, for the 1st Battalion, forming part of a perimeter defence for the beaches, and after a desperate defence across the Bethune-Merville road, at Le Paradis, where they suffered further heavy losses, the remnants were taken prisoner and very few escaped home.
Born 1904 in Dunbar, East Lothian. Son of Andrew and Mary Jane (Johnstone) Combe. Husband of Maria Walker Riding (Flockhart) Combe of East Linton, East Lothian who he married in 1939 in Tranent.

James Johnstone Coull – age 31 – Sergeant (3127309) 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.
James had been in the army for almost 15 years when he landed with his battalion on the Vichy French island of Madagascar on 5 May 1942.
Born 1911 in Tranent. Son of the late James Coull and of Mary (Johnstone) Coull (from 1921 Mrs George Chambers) of 17 Northfieldeast, Tranent. Husband of Catherine Kay (Reid) Coull of New Row, Tranent who he married in 1937 in Edinburgh.
Killed in Action on 6 May 1942 and buried in Diego Suarez War Cemetery, Madagascar.

A.B. DENNISON
Alexander Beveridge Dennison – age 22 – Flight Sergeant (1566359) 550 Squadron, Bomber Command, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Alexander was the navigator of his Lancaster bomber which had taken off from RAF North Killingholme, Lincolnshire for a raid on Dresden but his aircraft collided with another Lancaster and crashed near Wragby in Lincolnshire.
Born 1923 in Pencaitland, East Lothian. Son of Adam and Janet Lauder Orphant (Chambers) Dennison of West Windygoul, Tranent and of Haddington.
Missing in Action on 13 February 1945 and named on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.


F.R. DOBIE
Frederick Roberston Dobbie – age 20 – Sub-Lieutenant (A) H.M.S. Peewit, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
Frederick was the Observer on his Barracuda Torpedo/Dive Bomber of 769 Squadron Fleet Air Arm based at East Haven in Angus. The aircraft spun in at Blackhead Moss, near Enagh Lough, County Londonderry soon after take off from the Royal Naval Air Station HMS Maydown.
Born 1924 in Kelty, Fife. Son of Alexander Hamilton Dobbie and of Jessie Batrrowman (Robertson) Dobbie of Tranent.
Died on Service on 29 August 1944 and buried in Faughanvale (St. Canice) Church Of Ireland Churchyard, County Londonderry.


ROBERT DOCHERTY
Robert Hogg Docherty – age 22 – Lance Corporal (3066616) 8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
The 8th Royal Scots landed at Normandy on 16 June 1944. Robert was killed near Grainville-sur-Oden and was re-interred in July 1945.
Born 1922 in Tranent. Son of Peter and Janet (Hogg) Docherty of Tranent.
Killed in Action on 29 June 1944 and buried in St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, France.

WILLIAM GIBB
William Gibb – age 29 – Lance Corporal (3063429) 7th/9th Battalion, Royal Scots.
The battalion landed at Ostend in October 1944 and on 3 November they attacked Flushing on the Island of Walcheren at the entrance to the River Scheldt leading to the key port of Antwerp. In mid-February they moved north to Gennep, on the River Maas. William was killed near Marienbosch and was re-interred in April 1947.
Born 1916 in Tranent. Son of James and Janet Brown (Neilson) Gibb of John Street, Tranent.
Died of Wounds on 22 February 1945 and buried in Jonkerbos War Cemetery, Netherlands

JOHN HOGG
John Hogg – age 26 – Lance Corporal (3194130) 2nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
The 2nd Seaforths, part of the 51st Highland Division, fought their way into Tripoli in late January 1943.
Born 1916 in Tranent. Son of James and Mary Hogg, of Preston, East Lothian.
Killed in Action on 21 January 1943 and buried in Tripoli War Cemetery, Libya.

HUGH INNES
Hugh Innes – age 31 – Lance Sergeant (2694682) 3rd Battalion, Scots Guards.
The 3rd (Tank) Battalion landed in their Churchill Tanks at Normandy on 21 July 1944. On 30 July they were ordered to seize Hill 226 near Les Loges, which was several miles behind German lines. The battalion reached its objective but then came under fire from enemy Jagdpanther tank destroyers which destroyed eleven British tanks. Hugh was re-interred in May 1945.
Born 1913 in Tranent. Son of Patrick and Robina Young ( King) Innes of 75 Lindores Drive, Tranent.
Killed in Action on 30 July 1944 and buried in Hottot-Les-Bagues War Cemetery, France.

JAMES KNOWLES
James David Howie Knowles – age 24 – Leading Aircraftman (1509913) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
James had been a house painter and he was based in the 70 Wing Headquarters at Inverness when he died of leukaemia in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Born 1921 in Tranent. Son of Joseph and Janet Walker (Wood) Knowles of 34 Morrison Avenue, Tranent.
Died on Service on 13 March 1946 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)


R. LAMB
Robert Shaw Lamb – age 23 – Ordinary Seaman (C/JX260545) H.M.S. Sultan, Royal Navy.
HMS Sultan was a shore base in Singapore. Robert was killed during a Japanese air-raid.
Born 1918 in Tranent. Son of George and Jemima (Lees) Lamb of Lammermuir Terrace, Tranent.
Died on Active Service on 29 December 1941 and named on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent.

John Malcolm – age 29 – Aircraftman 1st Class (799970) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
John died of pneumonia in his parent's home in Tranent.
Born 1915 in Inveresk, Midlothian. Son of Robert and Robina Harper (Hamilton) Malcolm of Tranent. Husband of Jane (Duncan) Malcolm of Wallyford, Midlothian who he married in 1940 in Inveresk.

WREN ANNIE McINTOSH
Annie Mackintosh – age 22 – Wren (7522) H.M.S. Northney, Women's Royal Naval Service.
Several Royal Navy bases on the eastern shore of Hayling Island, Hampshire bore the name HMS Northney. They were used for training of the crews of landing craft. Annie died of lupus in the Royal Naval Hospital, Haslar, Portsmouth.
Born 1923 in Tranent. Daughter of the late Isabella Lanelands (Thomson) Mackintosh (died 1940) and of Alexander Russell Mackintosh of Edinburgh.
Died on Service on 1 October 1945 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)


DAVID McIVOR
David Taylor McIvor – age 26 – Able Seaman (P/JX187506) H.M.S. Victory, Royal Navy.
David died of a diabetic coma in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Born 1918 in Tranent. Son of James and Agnes (Taylor) McIvor of Tranent.
Died on Service on 9 August 1945 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)


DAVID McNEILL
David McNeill – age 21 – Warrant Officer (1568578) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
David was serving with 3 (Pilot) Advanced Flying Unit at RAF South Cerney near Cirencester in Gloucestershire. He died as a result of typhoid fever contracted while serving on Cyprus.
Born 1924 in Tranent. Son of ?
Died on Service on 14 October 1945 and buried in Tranent New Cemetery. (CWG)
