I am currently trying to research the players of Musselburgh Rugby Club that were killed in WWII.

Once I have collated all the information I would like to have a Roll of Honour made to present to the club in their memory. Any suggestions on how this should be done or where I could get it done would be greatly received. I would be funding this myself so there wouldn't be a lot of money for an ellaborate one!!!

Also any suggestions as to how I should present it to the club?

A marvellouse idea. I have seen some good handwritten rolls of honour and some good printed ones but one that I think stands out is a watercolour in New Galloway town hall.

You can achieve excellent results with a word processor program and an inkjet printer but this would be liable to fade in a year or two, especially if kept in sunlight. It might be worth asking the local museums service if they have any thoughts on what might last - I seem to remember indian ink was used many years ago. A display position out of strong light would help. I don't suppose there is a local art college with a calligraphy class?

Hi Shona,

I don't know what budget you have in mind. The following group of people do the artwork for the Court of the Lord Lyon in Scotland. Their work painting on vellum is used for its longevity, presumably measured in hundreds of years, as can be seen by looking at their predecessors' work in the Court of the Lord Lyon's office in New Register House.

hi shona.
just a suggestion but it might be worth a try talking to your local collage/uni and asking for some collaboration .
:ie you do the research and and they do the art as im sure you would certainly find a more than able art student willing to expand on this as it would provide both them with a portfolio and also some much needed local history.
