This war memorial for the men of Minginish 1914 -1919 is at Carbost on the Isle of Skye , just along the road from Talisker Distillery. It is located on a hillock across from the Free Church of Scotland at Carbost .
I recall only the names of the 1914 -1919 casualties were listed although it mentions only on the front of the memorial the 1939 -1945 war too but none of them were listed on any sides of this memorial |

I think the middle panel may be the Second World names. I chose the name most likely to be easiest to find and I checked CWGC WW1 and WW2. Carbost is the community below this memorial.

Roll of honour for Skye and Lochalsh by Graham Ross . The copies are retained at Portree Library and at Inverness Library.
Carbost War Memorial :
The Carbost War Memorial , which was erected in the late 1920's stands high above the village of Carbost on a hill at the junction of the B 8009 and the road to Glenbrittle. It takes the form of a granite obelisk on a granite base forming two steps . It bears the names of 25 Men who gave their lives in the Two Great Wars of the 20th Century and one man who was Killed in the NORTH WEST FRONTIER between the Wars . Sometime after the Second World War it was struck by lightning and had to be replaced on the original base.

Unfortunately it's not clear which one of the 25 names is this man.

Having just input this record (niwm 57249), we have a list of the names taken from the Roll of Honour for Skye and Lochalsh by Graham Ross in the file. Having gone through the names on the memorial it seems that when it was damaged by the lightning, they must have replaced the names section and decided to amalgamate the name list. The names are now ordered by unit rather than war so WW1 and WW2 are all jumbled up.
And the mystery North West Frontier person is.....Neil MacCraken, killed on the 27 May 1937.

Jane ( Inventory of UK War Memorials IWM London)
The info I added above was taken from Graham Ross's loose page Roll of Honours held at the Portree Library . He has a section of his research just covering the info on each War Memorial within Skye and Lochalsh .
I think I photographed all the names on the war memorial that overlooks the hamlet of Carbost , Isle of Skye
