Paul. So pleased you got this. It's been on my list forever.
Archibald Douglas Chalmers, Lieutenant 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Age 29.
Born 1880 at Ayr. Son of Archibald and Anne Jane (Cowan) Chalmers of Kipp House, Kippford, Dalbeattie. Educated at Merchiston Castle, Edinburgh he went to Ceylon in 1913 to take up tea planting. He returned in February 1916, trained at Gailes O.T.C. and was gazetted 2nd Lt. A&SH in August 1916. He joined the battalion in Salonica in September 1917. Died 9 December 1918 from enteric fever at No. 28 General Hospital, buried at Mikra British Cemetery Kalamaria, Greece.
He is also named on a memorial in Christ Church Warleigh, Dikoya, Sri Lanka.

A member of the Great War Forum recently visited the little 19th century Anglican church of Christ Church, Warleigh, Dikoya in Ceylon/ Sr Lanka.
There is a bronze Great War roll of honour in the church and among the names is AD Chalmers. After I quick web search I came across this entry and see that Archibald Douglas Chalmers is remembered in both Scotland and Ceylon where he worked as a tea planter.

That's great to get information like this where Scottish soldiers are commemorated on other memorials. I think this is the first one to be found in Sri Lanka.
Thanks
