|

George Turnbull Orrock is absent from the CWGC & SNWM registers.
Pte Orrock joined the army in October 1914 from being a farm servant near Inverkeilor in Angus.
He was in the 8th Btn Black Watch and received a gunshot wound to his left thigh on the 10th of October 1915. For 18 months he was in hospital in England but never recovered from his injuries and died in Arbroath infirmary on 29th of November 1918. He was buried with full military honours in Invekeilor churchyard.
Kinnenthmont has the case in hand, including Orrocks' discharge papers and death certificate, but I thought I'd share Private Orrocks story with the forum.
He is remembered on the memorials at Inverkeilor and Arbroath as well as having a biography and photo in the Arbroath & district Roll of Honour.
Cheers,
Derek.

As Derek relates:
A case for S/6388 Pte George Turnbull Orrock, “A” Coy., 8th Battalion, Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) been forwarded on his behalf, to CWGC / MOD as a non comm death due to service related causes. His details are now in the system.
It has been put forward as Orrock but he may well be commemorated as Orrick. This is the spelling on his file and is actually how he signed his name. I have submitted all that is available to support ORROCK as the correct surname spelling.
I have now established the location of his grave and am aware it is unmarked.
Well done Derek in finding him. _________________ Jim
