This man (Dumphie on the memorial but Dunphie on CWGC and SNWM) was one of 24 members of the RAPC who were killed in the sinking of the Lancastria.
DUNPHIE, SAMUEL
Rank: Private
Service No: 7663192
Date of Death: 17/06/1940
Age: 21
Regiment/Service: Royal Army Pay Corps
Panel Reference: Column 148.
Memorial: DUNKIRK MEMORIAL
Additional Information: Son of Archibald Murchie Dunphie and Jean Hogg Dunphie.
I notice that it has Dalry, LMS next to his name. Would that mean he worked at Dalry Rail Station?

Many of those listed have LMS or LNER against their names. Dalry was on an LMS line

I don't think there is a WW2 LMS memorial which lists names.

The names after the individual on the WW2 indicate the name of the corps company (St.Andrew's unit ) they were attached to in many cases these were made up of employees of those places but in most cases this was just where the unit was founded and they retained that name.
for example the Hamilton west LMS company still exists and is now just Hamilton west and they still meet next to the station. _________________ Joseph yeardly |
