Blimey that's a tough one. Given the number of men who served in them it's likely to be a Lowland infantry regiment - however there's no guarantee of that.
My grandfather was in the 9th Seaforth Highlanders and there's a family photo from 1918 where he is wearing a "lowland" tunic - not cutaway in the Highland style - and trousers.
Also some Machine Gun and Trench Mortar units in some Scottish divisions wore a Tam O'Shanter.
Plus he may have been one of the tens of thousands of Scots who served in the Canadian army.
That's the closest I can get. The lanyard on his shoulder was favoured by mounted units but was often worn by other units when they were off duty to smarten their uniform. You often see it in portrait photographs.It can't be used to narrow down a unit.
