Hi,
I would be grateful if any members can help me with the research for the above soldier. He is commemorated on the Dunfermline WW1 War Memorial. His medal roll and medal index card show his rank as sergeant. The local newspaper (Dunfermline Journal) article that was published at the opening of the memorial also states his rank as sergeant.
CWGC are currently commemorating him with the rank of private:
Peter M Fraser
Service No. S/3987
Died on 25th March 1918
I have submitted his MIC and ROH to CWGC but they state that this is not sufficient to make any change to his rank and that a newspaper article should be submitted. Unfortunately, the Dunfemlione Journal article does not make reference to any of the fallen's service numbers. I would be very grateful if any members would be able to help in finding a newspaper article that could confirm his rank?
Kind Regards,

Soldiers Died in the Great War, Scottish National War Memorial and Register of Soldiers Effects all show his rank as Private but that is probably not what you are looking for.

Dependent's Pension Card also lists him as a Private. |

Thanks for the replies. I found that his battalion war diary listed him as missing with the rank of private. This would appear to be his rank at the time of his death.
Rgds,
