There is also a Hawick link to his place of employment in London but at the moment I can't remember what it was.

Stephen,
The Hawick link was that another Hawick man, Robert Purdom, also worked for that firm:
He was employed at Nicholsons, St.Pauls Churchyard, London.
Robert was killed in the war.

Derek, I have a bit of information on my grandfather who was a Hawick man, both some pictures of him with a colleague (maybe when they signed up) and also when he was sent home after a bad injury to his leg.
Do you collect info on Hawick history, if I'm happy to send information to you. |

Stephen,
I'd bite your hand off for any info regarding Hawick and the Great War. _________________

We are visiting the area next weekend. I have seen reports that Cavers Church is in a bad state of repair.
Is the church still open and the role of homnour on display? |

Cavers is in fine state of repair - you're confusing it with the old one which is a ruin.
The church is usually locked so either turn up on a Sunday morning or see if you can find out who holds a key off Google etc. _________________
