St Andrews Church was formed from the amalgamation of three seperate churches: Gartsherrie, Dunbeth and Maxwell Church. As you would expect, there are a fair few memorial plaques in the church.
The building currently used was formerly Gartsherrie Church, so the memorials for that church are still in place on either side of the pulpit:

Found this recently. In the hall of the church there is a table and chairs, with a very small plaque on the top.

The photo isn't clear so here's a transcription:
"Dedicated to the Glory of God and ion loving memory of one hundred men connected with the congregation who fell in the Great War 1914-1918. Jubilee of Church 1923."
I haven't been able to determine which church this came from. I can say with a fair degree of certainty that it wasn't Maxwell Church, as I don't remember ever seeing it there.

The Scotsman, Thursday 25th November 1920, page 6.
"Gartsherrie Parish Church
In Gartsherrie Parish Church the memorial to the fallen was unveiled and dedicated by the Rev. James A. McClymont, C.B.E., V.D., D.D., Moderator-designate of the General Assembly. The memorial is an extension of the wood scheme on either side of the chancel, in which are set two brass panels and is the design of Messrs. James Davidson & Son, Coatbridge. There are 44 names on the panels." |

David - I might have asked you this before (if so, sorry!) .....
According to the Scotsman Article, there should be 44 names, but I count 45. Looks as though there's been a name added at the botton of the panel with Peter Barclay at the top.
Can you have a look at your photos and see if you can get that last name, or if it isn't a name, can you read what it is?
Ta,
Anne |
