Looks like he is on the memorial at Balliol College, Oxford.

Maybe also at Harrow School.

According to the SNWM, he was born in Lanark, but no sign of him on the pictures on this forum.

The family seat was nearby Dungavel Castle or Dungavel House, now Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre, an immigration detention facility.

His brother Douglas Douglas-Hamilton, 14th Duke of Hamilton was famously involved in the 1941 arrival of Rudolf Hess in Scotland by parachute on a nearby moor.

That's where I recognised the name from! It rang bells but I couldn't explain why.

Many thanks to all who looked things up here. I guessed such a prominent Scot whose family have connections all over the country must have been listed somewhere. I had tried a search but I couldn't find him.

Yes this is one of the Douglas-Hamiltons of the Dukes of Hamilton and Earls of Selkirk families.

At the outbreak of war he was one of four brothers serving in the RAF. All held the rank of Squadron Leader or greater. Lord David was the only one to be killed during the war.

Regards
