The memorial takes the form of a stained glass window below which are brass panels containing the names of the fallen.
The uppermost panel is for the adherents of the Parish Church (Abbey) whilst below are the names of the dead from the North and South U.F. Churches which were added when these congregations merged with the Abbey.
TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE OF THIS CONGREGATION WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919
THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE
Apologies for the brass plaques but they were almost impossible to photograph.

James Young Duncan Royal Engineers was in the 17th Sherwood Forresters and was killed on 31st July 1917. He is on the Menin Gate and was 25. A painter to trade he lived at 74 Gray Street, Broughty Ferry and was my wife's uncle.

He is on the SNWM but his date is given as 4th October 1918 even though he is on the Menin Gate ( 1917) , CWGC has the correct date, he is on the casualty list for the 17th SF for 31st July 1917 (a copy of which I have) and he is mentioned in the September 1917 People Journal as kia. The SNWM have so far refused to change it and want his death cert from GRO.
