Jane Haining is a distant relative of mine. Her father married for a second time when Jane was a teenager, and he married a great-great-aunt of mine.
Jane's step-sister Agnes was in contact with me until her death a couple of years ago.
I have more information on Jane Haining which I will post later. |

Jane attended Dumfries academy and her name appears on a plaque of notable pupils on the outside wall of the building. See memorial for Dumfries Academy for details of location.

I checked out Jane Haining on the web. It turns out there are another two memorials to her
From the Gazeteer of Scotland website:
Jane Haining
1897 - 1944
...She is remembered in the stained-glass windows of Queen's Park Church in Glasgow, at the Church in Dunscore, at the Scottish Mission in Budapest and by a stone in the 'Vigil for the Scottish Parliament' monument on Calton Hill in Edinburgh.

and as mentioned on Jane's new 2005 memorial, she is also commemorated in The Garden of the Righteous at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. |

I have some stuff about that which I'll post when I find it. I have a copy of the certificate which was given to her half-sister to commemorate this. |

Jane's family gravestone in Irongray churchyard, it mentions her death in Auschwitz.

Just seen an item on BBC Reporting Scotland about a campaign to give Jane Haining a posthumous honour. There is a similar article at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/7803163.stm.
"Two memorials to Miss Haining exist in Scotland - a pair of stained glass windows at the Queen's Park Church of Scotland in Glasgow, where she worshipped, and a plaque at Dunscore Kirk, Dumfries, close to where she was born. "
So what are the stone on Calton Hill, the plaque outside her old school and the 2005 memorial in Dunscore then?

I've e-mailed BBC Scotland News with a link to this page letting them know about the other three memorials in Scotland to Jane Haining.
Cheers
