Roxy
Thanks for the kind comments. I must admit I am very happy with these myself. I think it has a lot to do with it being a cracking sunny Sunday morning when I took the photos and also the fact I wasn't rushing to take the them before I had to go somewhere else which is usually the case.
Cheers

The memorial was unveiled on 9th August 1924 by Earl Haig and present at the ceremony was Mr. Thomas Collins who joined the regiment in 1874, and a Mr. Hay VC.
an article appreared in the Glasgow Bulletin newspaper on the 7th August which states:
"The central figure is a sergeant in the act of advancing 'over the top' symbolising Victory, on the left is a lifeless body of a young officer symbolising sacrifice and on the right a Lewis gunner (this was probably written from notes provided by Philip Lindsay Clark) |

The memorial is in the form of a low stone plinth on a base of four low steps with a three figure brass sculpture on top. The base is some 6 by 4m and height of steps and plinth is under 2m. The sculpture is probably a further 2m high as, although the figures are greater than lifesize, the figure of the Sergeant is in a crouching run.
This bronze memorial was unveiled in August 1924 to commemorate members of the Cameronians who fell in the First World War. In 1947 the inscription was include a commemoration of those who died in the Second World War, and in 1968 a tablet was added to mark the disbandment of the regiment.
The sculpture depicts a sergeant "advancing over the top", symbolising Victory. On his right is the dead body of a young officer, symbolising Sacrifice. A Lewis gunner covers the advancing troops with gunfire and, in the words of the artist, shows the "determination to succeed... for which our men were so remarkable".
The memorial has the signature P LINDSAY CLARK on the base of the statue group at the side of the machine gunner, and at the rear of the statue group M. MANENTI FOUNDRY.
The memorial lies in the grounds of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, towards the river Kelvin and Dumbarton Road, from The Art Gallery. The memorial is surrounded on three sides by a low hedge and on the side open to the public, there is a low metal railing.

This memorial has recently been cleaned and restored and now looks even more impressive.
I think this say M Maneti Foundry. Does that make sense to anyone?

The Manenti (note spelling) foundry was in Chelsea I believe.

According to an old copy of the regimental magazine of the Cameronians 'The Covenanter', the model for the striking main figure of the sergeant on this memorial was a Piper in the regiment called Jimmy Sanderson.
