Neil Little is listed on the Gelston and Gelston School war memorials. H served in the Lanarkshire Yeomanry and later the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, he was discharged from the army in Dublin on 7 Sep 1917 with Hodgkins disease and died on 25 July 1918. I have his service record and MIC. He is not listed on CWGC or SNWM.
As he was discharged in Dublin, I have to assume he died in Ireland because I cannot find a death certificate in England/Wales or Scotland. Any idea how I get hold of an Irish death certificate for 1917?

You can down-load an application from www.groireland.ie
and send to Civil Registration Office, Office of the Registrar General, Government Offices, Convent Road, Roscommon, Co. Roscommon, Ireland.
They only accept postal or fax applications and credit card not debit card. There is charge of 10euros.
Note that Irish Death Certificates do not include parent information. _________________ Ken |

This looks a very good prospect, depending on the detail given on the Death Certificate. The file clearly states his discharge condition under KR 392 was caused / agravated by Active Service.
As Ken states there are no NOK details so it might be difficult to estabish that they are one, and the same, man. If you could send me a copy of the DC I can advise further.
Do you know if he is buried locally? _________________ Jim

Those are the details on his MIC. No mention of overseas service before 1916. _________________ Jim

OK forget the birth details I posted earlier - that's another Neil Little
Neil Little was born (illegitimate) on 2 January 1892 at Low Borgue, Kirkcudbrightshire. Mother - Agnes Little, Dairymaid.
He died on 25 July 1918 at Greenlane, in the Parish of Rerrick, Kirkcudbrightshire. A Farm Servant (Private Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers) Single.
Age 26. Mother - Agnes Little, Dairymaid (afterwards married to John Millar) Cause of Death is given as Pulmonary Tuberculosis - 1 year.
According to his Pension Record
Neil Little, Private 30963 Royal Iniskilling Fusiliers gives his residence as Green Lane, Castle Douglas.
He was initially taken ill in Salonica.
Neither the Lanarkshire Yeomanry nor the Inniskillings served there but the 11th Battalion, Scottish Rifles did.
Jim - I'll send Death Register entry if you still want it. _________________ Ken |

Please send image to my direct address, thanks. It does not look promising from the details you give. _________________ Jim

Ken
Sadly Neil Little is one who would not be accepted as a service cause related death. The cause of his discharge, Hodgkins Disease, is quite specific and the medical report describes symptoms of this condition. There is nothing in the record to indicate a chest condition which could be linked to Pulmonary Tuberculosis.
If the doctor had made mention of Hodgkins Disease on the DC the outcome would have been certain. _________________ Jim
