i had another attempt at notifying amendments/additions to UKNIWM and this time got some positive feedback. Have supplied some info on a couple of memorials, one photo and details of this forum and its aims (to publish photos of the memorials on the web) - low key stuff. Will continue the dialogue in increasing volumes (I have appx 20 unlisted memorials, 10+ amendments to existing listings and all the photos - that is just in Dumfries and Galloway)
Our (my) activities are beginning to be noticed around Dumfies (council, churches and larger institutions) so I will continue to work on a slow build up and involve press in due course.
Has anyone put us forward to Cindi's List, Society of Genealogists, Federation of Family History Societies, Family History Magazines, The Sunday Post and Scottish TV Local News programs?
Will be offline for a few days, back next week

Derek,
Re Google my daughter made sure we were listed on all the search engines etc. when I set up the Alexander Carrick website and it was a bit demoralising that we didn't appear anywhere for months. It took at least 6 months before we suddenly started appearing on Google searches and we pretty much went straight to the top of the list after that and its been great! Yahoo, MSN and Alta Vista were quicker than Google in taking us up.
Apply to www.dmoz.org, this is the open directory project which, if the site is accepted by the reviewers, should get us onto all major search engines.
I think you just have to be patient. Also a lot of other sites seem to thoroughly vet your site to make sure your serious before including links etc. |
