I do not know the detail of the error case you mention.
In general terms, the more pieces of official evidence that can be obtained ( original or clear copy) in support, the better. When CWGC checked the detail you sent, against their original register, it may have revealed a simple scanning error which they would correct without further query.
Where a Service Return exists an Extract can be obtained from GROS which would clearly show the detail and his full service number, part of which is obscured on the McDonald Return image. It will carry most weight, together with the service file.
In his case, as an in service non comm case the Certificate will be obtained to confirm his death. _________________ Jim

I am checking this. As mentioned on 1st June the Mc / Mac s were being checked at that time by IFCP so it may be Liz provided the initial detail of his case.
Update
It was the case that Liz Crow was checking the Mc / Mac names at the time and had submitted details of George McDonald before my case detail was analysed. In consequence, the " find " is attributed by IFCP to Liz rather than myself and I was not informed personally he had been accepted on 23rd October.
It can be that more than one person uncovers the same missing casualty, as in this case. It could have, of course, turned out the other way round.
The main thing is that George will now be commemorated in perpetuity by CWGC, due to the combined effort.
At present there are 544 outstanding cases submitted by IFCP and awaiting determination.
