There is shortly to be an Unveiling of a Memorial Plaque to FRENCH 18th Century .... Marshal ETIENNE ALEXANDER MACDONALD .
The memorial plaque will be unveiled on South Uist where his father was born . His father , NEIL MACDONALD was born at Howbeg . He was a Jacobite and had a key role in Prince Charles Edward Stuart's escape following the Battle of Culloden in April 1746 .
( I have a book called "The French MacDonald ; journey of a Marshal of Napoleon in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland Marshal MacDonald duke of Tarentum ; the 1825 Travel diary of Jacques Etienne Joseph Alexander MacDonald published 2007 by the Islands Book Trust ).
