Got another Scottish monument in Holland.
This chapel commemorates the liberation by The Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth & Camerons). A Scottish Highlander Division.
In this place the Scots entered Waalwijk on October 30th 1944.
In the chapel are several plaques, including a replica of the plaque at Fort George in Scotland.

Nice photos, I visited there with my late Father and a couple of other vets in 2004.
Waalwijk was entered on 30th October 1944 by 5th battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders and occupied during the early hours of the afternoon.
The crowds came out and halted the Camerons. The Germans cleared the squre by shelling. A little girl was killed. _________________ RGS. www.keep-em-moving.co.uk |

That is nice of you to visit this memorial in Waalwijk, did you visit more memorials in the surroundings?
This area is liberated by many different nationalities. On a stroke of about 25 km, the Scots, Welsh, English, Americans, Poles, Canadians and Dutch fought. I have great respect for these men, who have fought for our freedom and yours. _________________ Always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts |

Yes I have been honoured to accompany my Father to Holland until his death, and more recently with 51st HD veterans. Have been to Schijndel, Vught, s'Hertogenbosch, Arnhem, Nijmegen, "The Island", Heusden, Waalwijk, Zig canal (uitwaterings canal) St Michiels Gestel and others. My website contains video of most of the visits.
oh, and Loon-op-zand. My last visit was with them to Vught last October for their 65th anniversary of Liberation.
regards Richard. www.keep-em-moving.co.uk _________________ RGS. www.keep-em-moving.co.uk |

That's a nice website you made! Only Camerons? If you like you can use my picture (with source) of this one: http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=1132&mforum=scottishwargraves
Please contact me if you like that.
So you have been to my home town too! 's-Hertogenbosch.
There is a lot of military history over here, it is well respected that veterans and people of interest visit the memorials and graves. Also a lot of care is brought by local people of Holland.
I saw you visited Camp Vught, your father liberated that camp in 1944? That should have been a strange liberation.
You visited Valkenswaard too, that is a well maintained cemetery. _________________ Always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts |

Many thanks for another 51st Division Memorial in Holland. I was unaware of the memorial in Fort George. It looks like it is to the three battalions of the 152 Brigade in 51st Div. They were 2nd and 5th Bn Seaforth Highlanders and 5th Cameron Highlanders.
Regards
Adam |

Hi Adam,
Something to visit for you then, Fort George?
If I find more in our surroundings I will upload it again.

Attended the Cameron gathering at the weekend at Cameron barracks, Inverness and paid a visit to Fort George again. Attached pic of the Waalwijk memorial at the Fort.
