Lots of Border names listed here:
Armstrongs, Bells, Carruthers, Irving, Jeffrey, Johnstone etc
The surname of Tochrane is a new one to me though. _________________

I have never seen Tochrane either so I checked it out, spelt the same on CWGC, SNWM and Lockerbie memorial. There are still Carruthers around Tundergarth, one currently on the local school board. Oh, and the name Armstrong? Neil Armstrong (from the moon landing) was the first freeman of Langholm and there is a plaque in Langholm church. I guess his ancestors were border reivers! |
