The Red Hackle magazine of the Black Watch , Number 112 published November 2011has on page 7 under the section Regimental & Battalion News
THE GENERAL RENNIE BRIDGE :
Dr Tom Ronouf MM reports that a new bridge over the DOMNEL in ST MICHIELSGESTEL has been names after MAJOR GENERAL THOMAS RENNIE . The Plaque was dedicated on 25 June 2011.
Many readers will know that GENERAL RENNIE was killed on 24 March 1945 whilst commanding the 51st HIGHLAND DIVISION during Operation COLIN which was launched to clear North Brabant and drive the Germans across the River Maas . He is buried in the Reichswald Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery .
(hope this is of interest : seems the location is the Netherlands
My godfather , Brigadier James A Oliver , Black Watch from Arbroath took temp command )

Rennie was killed during operation Plunder, the crossing of the Rhine, March 1945. Operation Colin was October 1944. Holland. I traced Rennies children for the Dutch people in St Michiels Gestel, so they could invite them to the ceremony. _________________ RGS. www.keep-em-moving.co.uk |
