This image is a photograph of a photocopy so aplogies for the quality! It is of a 1937 edition of Caber Feidh, the regimental magazine of the Seaforth Highlanders.
A detachment of the Black Watch visited the battlefield in 1937 and tidied up the memorial and the gravestones nearby. It's unlikely it has survived fifty years of Sudanese independence but I hope we can unearth a better image of it.
There is the obelisk which looks like it is a grave marker as well as a memorial and three other memorials. The one nearest is the headstone for 2nd Lt Gore, Seaforth Highlanders

I note that my great uncle John McNeill, Ist Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, Reg No. 4494, who was killed in the battle on 8th April 1898 is incorrectly named as John Neill.

Thanks Alex, that's interesting. I see his name is correct on the memorial in St Giles' in Edinburgh:

Do you have any further information you could post about him such as where he was born, who his parents were and where they lived when he died. i.e. the information you would get for World War dead on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and Scottish National War Memorial databases.
Thanks
