The picture is a proof for the final cover which I received today - photo courtesy of Jim McGinlay. The pages are being sent for binding on Friday.
I enjoyed the research, although the last few months have been quite difficult trying to get it to completion.
Now.....have I done the right thing? Could it have been better? Contained more info.? Some of you may know where I am coming from!
Anyway for those who have expressed an interest and for others who MAY be interested I'll keep you posted when its out.
Thanks to all,
Mark |

Some quotes;
“In may comfort you to know that, even in the midst of pain, his thoughts were of you and those he had left at home….at the moment he fell his great friend Stanton was with him and he was greatly consoled”
Sgt. Gilbertson
“he has, on the altar of patriotism made the supreme sacrifice; the last, as it is the greatest and grandest a man can do for his country and friends”
Rev. Robert Stewart, St Mary’s Parish Church
“he now sleeps with so many of the nation’s best beneath the soil of France. We sorrow for him today, but not without pride, since, with these others he gave his life to make a tomorrow for Europe”
Rev. Nicoll, St Andrew’s U.F. Church
“My Dear Mr and Mrs Wishart, it will be as sad for you to read this note as it is for me to intimate the tragic death of your beloved son Jim. I come now as a great chum of Jim’s to condole with you in your great loss, and although I may not say much, it is with a heavy heart…..”
Four days before his death he wrote home:- “I am in the best of health, and am quite confident in the One who looks after all His children and who has brought me through up till the present. If He thinks fit He will bring me through to the end. I am in His hands”.
2nd Lieut. David Marshall M.C., Lancashire Fusiliers
“all that human skill could do was done to save his life, but that was impossible…..he was patient and grateful to the end”
Rev. D. Paterson, Army Field Chaplain
“All hopes, however, have now been laid aside of his being alive, and he must be regarded as no longer one of us upon earth, but one more of the Roll of Honour who counted not their lives dear for their country’s sake”
Rev. Guthrie, South U.F. Church
“Still another bereavement has been sustained by Mrs Charles Robertson, 40C William Street, Blairgowrie…. three sons killed in one family is an exceptional occurrence, and much sympathy will go out to Mrs Robertson in her great sorrow”

Mark,
I'm looking forward to reading your book.
And if it's anything like mine, the minute you put it out on sale, someone will come along and offer you information which would have slipped beautifully into your already completed text. _________________

The book is (finally!) in print.
A launch is being arranged for 23rd June - I suppose fitting as the WM. was dedicated on the 21st June 1921 - almost 86 years to the day.
Sir William Macpherson of Cluny, whose g-uncle is commemorated, will officiate. I'm hoping that Laurence Blair Oliphant of Ardblair & Gask, whose grandfather is on the W.M., will be available to attend also.

Mine arrived this morning and thoroughly cheered me up after feeling miserable and phoning in sick for work.
Gave me ample opportunity to read it. An excellent work, you are to be congratulated. |
