This memorial, taking the form of a communion table, is presently within St. Nicholas Church, Aberdeen. I have had a good look at the majority of the church unveilings in the Aberdeen Journal but this is eluding me so far.

Mark - don't know if it helps but Agnes Mary Hunter and Elizabeth Sutton were both killed during an air raid on 21 April 1943 at CATTOFIELD PLACE.

The William Craib mentioned may be William Ogston Craib, Pte 252, 26th Bn Australian Infantry, DOW 06/08/1916. A son of George and Mary A Craib of Virginia Street, Anberdeen. The Roll of Honour circular on the Australian War Memorial website states he attended Hanover Street School in Aberdeen.
I'm not familiar with the streets of Aberdeen but just wondered if the old Aberdeen steet maps might show a church near the school mentioned or indeed the street where the parent's resided if it was close to the school.
Regards
LIT
Edit: Had a look at his service records. Middle name may be Ogliston, and he said he was Presbyterian. I also noticed on Google maps that Virginia Street and Hanover Street are close together. |

Schoolhill is close to Virginia Street and Hanover Street. Hopefully someone that knows Aberdeen can offer some suggestions as to the church where this memorial originated. As for proving it, well there is a bigger task.
Divisions of the parishes can be seen on this Aberdeen City map.

The streets are all to the north of the Upper Dock and Victoria Dock.
Multitudes of churches can be found in the area on this older map.

Penang is a Malayan city. I wonder if Mrs Mackay had been evacuated after the Japanese invasion in December 1941? When she died at a hospital perhaps she was working there rather than as a patient which may explain her being listed on this memorial? |
