Alistair,
Thank you for the amazing pics.
I passed the memorial in the summer but I see that the authorities have now moved it _________________

Sadly this is indeed the case. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to discover whose decision it was. I am still trying to find out what plans there are for the preserved section of trench that stood alongside the memorial. It was would be criminal if that was lost. _________________ b]Old Front Line Website: http://www.battlefields1418.com/[/b] |

Here is a scanned photo which was taken about four years ago showing the Seaforths and Gordons border stones.
This is when the memorial was still in it's old location between the lanes of the N50 from Arras.

Fantastic photos.
The Great War is really becoming a special project for me, not having known much about the history. I hope there are others like myself who discover through a little bit of family research, the lost relatives who did not return home. My ultimate goal is to visit the war graves and pay my respects to my great uncles that I never met, and the brothers that my gran who is ninety this year did not get to meet either. Very emotional.
This site will help keep the memories alive. I will certainly be passing on the link wherever I can.

Here are a couple of more photographs from the old location.
The first shows a corner post with the 9th Div thistle badge
The second not only shows a windblown and hungover battlefield visitor but also the preserved battlefield which is presumably now underneath a new improved N50.
This memorial was my favourite of my visit to the Western Front a few years ago. When I was there I though that it was so large and impressive it would be there for hundreds of years, long after all the other memorials on the Western Front had crumbled away. How wrong was I!
I hope to re-visit this memorial later in the year in its new location. I just hope it is still as impressive.
