Searching for Thomas L Brunton on a WW2 memorial . He came from Bellshill but his name is not on the towns memorial. Just wondered if it could be recorded elsewhere in the district. Wondered if he could have been recorded elswhere? |

Sarah
I am moving this request to the queries section of the forum rather than the Civic section.
David McNay has visited most of the Lanarkshire War Memorials and when he returns from his holiday he may be able to help.
CWGC details:
BRUNTON, THOMAS LOUITT
Rank: Flight Sergeant (W.Op./Air)
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Unit Text: 196 Sqdn.
Age: 22
Date of Death: 31/03/1945
Service No: 1567407
Additional information: Son of John and Margaret Brunton, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: British Plot. 15. Coll. grave 9.
Cemetery: ARENDAL HOGEDAL CEMETERY
That's quite an unusual middle name. Did you know a photo his grave is online here:

Thanks Adam. No, I didn't know that there was a photo on this site you mentioned. I do however, have this photo, as a cousin has done extensive research on Thomas. At this moment he is in contact with someone in Norway who wishes to write an article about him and then a book including the whole crew.
The name Louitt appears to be a missprint. One of our grannies was a Margaret Lutted. We have also found it spelt in the family as Louttit. Well known name in Orkney apparentl |
