Not listed on UKNIWM
Location outside St Joseph’s catholic church in Stranraer (on A77 junc with Fairhurst Rd) at OS Map Ref NX 062 604.
This memorial shows significant signs of previously repaired damage including two repaired breaks and something obviously removed from the front – a bronze cross maybe or a sword of sacrifice?

I have seen a photo of this memorial taken in the early 1990s but unfortunately I was not able to take a copy.
At that time the memorial had the remains of a crucifix on the front, marble I think, certainly the hands and feet were broken and missing and I think the head also.
Sad treatment of a memorial and I would like to know more about how it came to be in this state. Although it is a church memorial, it is in a fairly prominent position and has a similar form and appearance to many civic memorials.

Of your charity pray for the eternal repose of the souls of these Catholic soldiers of this mission who fell in battle in the Great War of 1914 - 1918 and for whom this memorial was erected by St Joseph's Congregation, 1922.
