On the Scottish Rifles section of the WW1 panels is Pte. Hugh McGarvie.
I think that this is the same man:
Hugh McGarva – age 27 – Private (2403) 1/6th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
Hugh was a motorman with the Lanarkshire Tramways Company in Motherwell when he enlisted in October 1914. He landed with his battalion at Le Havre on 20 March 1915 but he was killed at Festubert three months later.
Born 1888 in Borgue, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of Alexander and Jemima (Bryden) McGarva of Drawbridge Cottage and, later, of Birtwhistle Street, Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire.
Missing in Action on 15 June 1915 and named on the Le Touret Memorial, France.
Also named on the Gatehouse War Memorial and on the Anwoth Parish Church memorial now in Gatehouse-of-Fleet Parish Church.
His brother Alexander McGarva – age 22 – Gunner (3010 & 936008) 35th Division Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery died of influenza in Glasgow on 13 February 1919 on his way home from France.
Co-incidentally Hugh's medals had to be re-engraved as they had the name McGarvie! _________________ Ken |
