Sorry about the awful quality of this photo, my original is nearly as bad and not good enough for a transcription I am afraid, but at least you know the memorial exists and roughly what it looks like. I think the stone is quite stunning actually.

The brass plaque is a reproduction of the one on the memorial in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. |

Paul
They are fantastic photographs of a brass plaque in a dark building. Have yoy any tips for the rest of us?

I use a digital camera that I selected especially with a good zoom and it works in low light levels. It's not an SLR and I don't know anything about exposure and F stop etc, so it is completely automatic. Give it time for the auto focus to work and remember that focus works on a small spot in the middle of the picture and on VERTICAL lines (so turn the camera sideways to get good focus if you need to). Sometimes I try to get in a position that avoids all reflections, but other times I move left/right and up/down to get in a position where the little light available is evenly spread across the plaque (a bit like deliberately using it as a mirror). Take plenty of pics (including close ups) so you can chuck away the bad ones. If you have to use flash, DON'T take the photo head on, use a slight angle to avoid glare. Standing back and using the zoom can sometimes give a better result than standing closer. Finally, when taking a lot of inside shots a long way from home, take a laptop PC so you can immediately check that the photos are good enough and do any retakes before you leave the site. |
