ALEX. RODGERSON, BLACK WATCH.
GEO. RODGERSON, SCOTTISH RIFLES.
(The brothers seem to have gained a "D")
Named on the Parish War Memorial in Durisdeer Village in Dumfriesshire as:
L.CPL. ALEXr. F. (sic) ROGERSON, BLK.WATCH.
Alexander Rogerson – age 19 – Private (S/6415) 2nd Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
Alexander was employed by the New Cumnock Collieries when he enlisted in 1914. He landed with the 8th Black Watch at Boulogne in March 1915 and was wounded at Loos in September 1915. After he recovered he was posted to 2nd Black Watch in Mesopotamia in March 1916 but was killed in the following month.
Born 1897 in Durisdeer as Alexander Twynholm Rogerson. Son of Robert and Lilly (Twynholm) Rogerson of Drumshinnoch, Carronbridge, Durisdeer and of Southampton House, New Cumnock, Ayrshire.
Killed in Action on 22 April 1916 and buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.

PTE. GEORGE ROGERSON, SCOTS RIFLES.
George Rogerson – age 21 – Private (43228) 1st Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
George was a porter and ticket collector with the Glasgow and Southwestern Railway Company at Carronbridge Station, Durisdeer when he enlisted as Private (963) in the Highland Light Infantry. He landed with the 10th Battalion at Boulogne in May 1915 and then served with the 12th HLI before he transferred to the Scottish Rifles.
Born 1895 in Durisdeer. Son of Robert and Lilly (Twynholm) Rogerson of Drumshinnoch, Carronbridge, Durisdeer and of Southampton House, New Cumnock, Ayrshire.
Died of Wounds on 22 September 1916 and buried in Foncquevillers Military Cemetery, France.
Also named on the G&SW Railway Company memorial now in Ayr Station. _________________ Ken |
