"Mr & Mrs William Leckie, 55 King Street, Stirling, have been informed by the War Office that their son, Private William Leckie, 1st Battalion Scots Guards, was reported after the operations on January 25, in which the Guards figured largely. Private Leckie, who was 25 years of age, joined the Army in September of last year, prior to which he was employed as a fireman with the Caledonian Railway Company, and he left for the front with a detachment of reinforcements for the 1st Battalion in the last week of December."

"Mrs Stewart, 13 Broad Street, Stirling, yesterday received official intimation that her son, Private William McQueen, 7th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Stirlingshire and Clachmannanshire Territorials) died in a field hospital in France on February 20. Private McQueen, who was 22 years of age, was previously employed as a mechanic with the Post Office Telephone Department, and he had been a member of Territorial Force for six years. No mention is made in the intimation of the cause of death, but it does not appear that Private McQueen had been wounded."
According to the War Return he died of "Gastro Enteric" problems.

STIRLINGSHIRE SOLDIERS KILLED.
Private John M'Kinnon, Highland Light Infantry, who had been at the front for over a year, is officially reported killed on 8th March. He was formerly a carter with Wordie & Company, Alloa. His nephew, Private Colin Ray, Cameron Highlanders, whose parents reside in Park Lane, Stirling, and who was reported missing several months ago, is now officially stated to have met his death whilst charging the enemy trenches. He was 23 years of age, and a miner to trade. Two of his brothers are at the front.
Private James Heally, Black Watch, whose mother resides at St Mary's Wynd, Stirling, is reported to have been killed on 8th September last, when he was posted missing. He was a pit worker, unmarried, and 23 years of age. Two of his brothers are with colours.

STIRLING SOLDIERS WHO HAVE FALLEN.
Corporal Thomas Penman, Royal Scots, whose wife resides at 11 Glengowan Buildings, Stirling, was killed on 13th May. He was at one time a miner in Fallin Colliery.
Private Thomas M. Mitchell, K.O.S.B., son of Mr and Mrs Mitchell, St Ninians, is officially reported to have died in hospital on 20th May.
Private Jack Derrick, Australian Expeditionary Force, who has been missing since 8th August last, is now reported to have been killed on that date. Private Derrick left Stirling for Australia about nine years ago.
Private David Young, A. and S.H., son of Mr and Mrs Young, Linden Avenue, died 9th May as the result of wounds received two days previously. He was formerly a porter at Stirling Railway Station.

STIRLING MINERS KILLED ACTION.
Mrs Sneddon, St Ninians, Stirling, has received official intimation that her husband, Sapper Joseph Sneddon, Royal Engineers, has been killed by a shell. He was formerly a miner, and leaves a widow and five of a family.
After having been posted missing since October 31, 1914, Private William Valentine, 1st Cameron Highlanders, whose father resides at St Ninians, Stirling, is now officially reported to have been killed on that date. He was formerly a miner.

STIRLING POLICEMAN KILLED IN ACTION
Word has been received that Commando Sydney Macgowan, former Stirling policeman, has been killed in action in Burma.
Commando Macgowan is the third Stirling policeman to lose his life in action.
A native of Ayrshire, where his father was a policeman, Commando Macgowan joined the old Stirling Burgh Police Force in 1935 and volunteered for service with the Commandos in October, 1942.

"News has come to hand concerning private William McNaughton, a young St Ninians (Stirling) man serving with the 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders, trace of whom had been lost since the operation at Neuve Chapelle. Private McNaughton's father, Mr William McNaughton, dyer, The Red Close, St Ninians, has now been officially informed that his son has been wounded and is at present receiving treatment in a hospital at Boulogne. The wounded lad, who is 19 years of age, enlisted some time after the outbreak of war and went to the front about a month before the Neuve Chapelle action. In civil life he was employed at one of the local collieries."

It looks awful like this mans middle initials (M.M.) as in "Bell, Alex. M.M." have been mistaken for the acronym for the Military Medal.
Unless there's another man called Alex. Bell associated with Stirling and this man isn't recorded here? The RoH would help clear that up.
